About Jennifer Aiken
Jennifer is currently Costume Designer and Wardrobe Manager for the
Colorado Ballet Academy, and
3rd Law Dance/Theater. In addition, she has created classical and contemporary ballet, modern, and aerial dance costumes for both student and professional organizations including the Arvada Center Dance Academy, Boulder Ballet, BRIAH Danse, Danse Etoile, Dawson/Wallace Dance Project, Frequent Flyers Productions, Littleton Youth Ballet, Objectivity Dance Theater, San Francisco School of the Arts, and Zikr Dance Ensemble. Jennifer has also created costumes for dancers competing in events such as Youth America Grand Prix and the USA International Ballet Competition.
Jennifer has been costuming since the age of five, when she would dress up her younger brother in a variety of make-believe scenarios. She began creating costumes for the stage in high school as a member of the Arvada Center Civic Ballet Company and continued costuming and dancing while attending Colorado College. Jennifer began her professional dance career with Boulder Ballet and has since performed with BRIAH Danse, David Taylor Dance Theater, Dawson/Wallace Dance Project, and Zikr Dance Ensemble. She currently performs with 3rd Law Dance/Theater and Objectivity Dance Theater.
Throughout her career, Jennifer has had the unique opportunity to serve as both a dancer and a costumer. Her dance experience has given her an understanding of the special challenges that dance can present to both costume design and fit. She is proud that many of her creations have become costume shop staples and continue to be used in a variety of different productions.
Her favorite holiday is Halloween.
About Couture Mimi
Couture Mimi is named for Jennifer's grandmother, Mimi, who was a great lover of opera and ballet. She and Jennifer regularly attended Opera Colorado performances together and Mimi never missed a production that Jennifer was dancing in. Mimi's basement housed Jennifer's first costume shop.
